ABOUT MiCHAEL pETERS
I was born in Atlanta GA, lived in Denver CO for most of my life and now reside in Jonesboro GA.
I have loved acting and performing for as long as I can remember. From singing and acting in front of relatives at a family get together, to performing on stage reciting Shakespeare, performance has been my outlet of genuine expression. I have performed in a variety of plays with content ranging from local artist’s productions up to and including internationally acclaimed works of art such as Shakespeare.
A memorable moment I’d like to share that inspires me and demonstrates that I am able to endure and overcome extreme challenges when it comes to the craft. This was evidenced by my having to take on the lead role of Macbeth for our final 19 performances when our lead actor quit mid production run and having only 2 days to rehearse and learn the full play.
I have had the pleasure of being a part of amazing productions in Denver, a few of which were nominated for multiple awards. Two were nominated for Best Musical, and one of them won for best Choreography. They were, ‘The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess’ and, ‘The Scottsboro Boys’, respectively. Porgy and Bess was actually the Best Seller in the history of the Fox Theater! Most recently the project called Amplify, which I was proud to be a part of through the Arvada center, also won the True West Award for its content and groundbreaking style of performance during the pandemic. The success of the productions I have been honored to be in have prepared me for multiple acting roles and given me an insatiable desire for excellence in craft.
Local productions that I have been a part of with Colorado Sisterhood Crusade have kept me close to the heart of the people and helped me to empathize with their struggles and also have allowed me to grow as a man of faith and a person of substance.
The duality of professional and local theatre has molded me into a more grounded and complete actor and I am eager to show and share my craft. I have done this through directing a number of the local plays of which I have been a part, and working with local artist and play writes to help them elevate the skill set of each and every actor with whom I come in contact. One piece I am particularly proud of directing is a one woman play titled, ‘Call Me Mrs. Evers”. An unofficial biopic of Civil Rights Champion, Ms. Merlie Evers.
In short, I expect the best from myself and it is my goal to bring out the best in others!
